An online Toolkit to maximise the capacity of Financial Counsellors to help people in financial crisis

WHO

Financial Counselling Australia (FCA) is the peak body for financial counsellors in Australia.

FCA is the national voice for the financial counselling profession in Australia. It is a not-for-profit organisation that:

  • provides resources and support for financial counsellors;

  • advocates for a fairer marketplace;

  • works to raise the profile of financial counsellors;

  • advocates to increase access to financial counselling; and

  • works to improve hardship processes for people in financial difficulty.

NEED

FCA - Financial Counselling Australia needed:

  • to enable the organisation to be agile in its choices, with the ability to experiment without undue risk or expense

  • to improve the sustainability and durability of FCA's systems

  • to establish a set of principles that make it easier to innovate wisely

  • to maximise the capacity of the organisation to achieve its mission.

SOLUTION

A toolkit that provides financial counsellors, financial capability workers and other defined user groups with the best resources, tools and training available nationally, and keep them up to date with the latest industry news.

The toolkit:

  • is the main source of resources nationally for financial counsellors and capability workers

  • is the central access point to the FCA Learning Management System (LMS) and centralises management of National Registration Numbers

  • provides state peak bodies with a way to manage their own membership categories, including approving them initially, changing their membership status and deleting them

  • allows creditors to check that a financial counsellor has a National Registration Number

  • complements, but does not duplicate, the National Debt Helpline site (www.ndh.org.au)

  • allows Financial Counselling Australia to easily manage content on the site and reduce administration costs.
